Windows 7 32bit lockup

Windows 7 32bit lockup

Postby JohnneyBoy » Sat Feb 20, 2010 7:16 pm

Hello Chaps,

I have just come round to running LR on my new Windows 7 box, 32bit, something very odd is going on. When I run LR up, tried many versions of LR, including latest beta,. After about 5/10 seconds of LR started the machine locks up solid! Mouse does not move, no keyboard input, i.e. ctl-alt-del.

Another interesting point is if I mute the line-in before I start LR, the machine is fine, however as soon as I bring the gain up on line-in and LR starts processing, crunch it locks!

If I do not run LR the machine runs fine.. no problems, runs for days and days!

I have turned anti virus off on the directories that LR and sndinput are using no difference, any ideas?

No messages in the event log. System or Application

Hello,

You can not work LR with another operating system like older Windows XP or 2000 ?
LR works not well with recent OS installed.
Otherwise, it must be asked to Frank ...

Good Luck :? :? :?

Best Regards

Hello,

Thanks Thomas for the advice, however..

I already have 4 machines running 24Hrs... I do not want any more! In fact some are being VMWared soon, so I will be back to 3.

I think the problem is with the sndinput program.

I have tried the XP compatibility mode on both LR and sndinput, no joy.. still locks...

I also tried the hitting the 'Stop' button on the sndinput program (when it is runing when LR is) , then hitting the 'Run' button, this caused the machine to Lock.

Hi folks,

I ran into this months ago while using the pre release version of Windows 7. I was trying to see if it would work with Snaps that I was writing at the time. Snaps will run fine with it but LR does as you say. The new version of LR 10.2.21 does not use that sound card program any more, so if it wont run then its not that causing it. It could still be a sound card issue of course. Having used it, for some months, I put XP back on, and will wait for Windows 8? . I found it to have a lot of very strange issues!

Hello,

Some good news... Microsoft released a number of Windows 7 patches a couple of days ago :o , thus I have installed them. Don't you just love these out of band patches...

So far no crashes! The longest it ran before was 30 minutes, we are now up to just over 24Hrs. I bet putting this to writing will cause it to crash :)

If I do get any more crashes I will report.

Hello,

Bad news.... :( I was making a couple of configuration changes to LR, on the filters setup, and just as I clicked the 5k filters option, the machine locked! Looks like I'll have to setup one of my other machines as a VM box and load XP....

Hello,

Well it looks as if I have found the problem, the system has been up for 2 days without failure. :)

The lockups were down to the system chipset driver! It's very interesting that no other program that was running other than LR could cause it, I suspect it's to do with the maths that is going on.. why, because Pime95 fails. Prime95 did not lockup the machine, however various prime95 threads would fail! which they should not. If I overclcok a machine, I always run Prime95 for at least 72 hours, and it must complete without error. My LR machine is not overlocked, so, one did not run it, I wished I had
